Shorter announces formation of NWLL
ROME, Ga. - Shorter University announced today
the formation of the National Women's Lacrosse League (NWLL), the
only NAIA specific women's lacrosse conference in the entire United
States.
The NWLL will consist of six teams in its inaugural season, which kicks off in March of 2011.
Shorter, which will partake in its first season of competition as a varsity program in 2011, will serve as one of the first six members. The league will announce the remaining five institutions in the coming weeks and plans to include women's lacrosse programs across the South and Midwest regions.
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country, and the formation of the NWLL is another step in that direction.
The NWLL will be a fully sanctioned league which will require teams to partake in a full league schedule that concludes with the NWLL Tournament in Rome, Ga., April 22 and 23. Shorter University will host the inaugural tournament at its home facility, Ben Brady Field.
